A Quick Glance at the European Poker Tour

The popularity of the Texas Hold'em poker game has been very evident in recent years. In 2004, this fact was supported by the launch of the European Poker Tour. This is yet another big poker event that was inspired by the global popularity of the game. This event is a living legacy of how the game of poker became a worldwide phenomenon in recent years.

Just like the world renowned World Poker Tour, the European Poker Tour is also a showcase of international poker tournaments that are held in Europe. This event was conceptualized by no other than Poker Million tournament winner John Duthie. Right now, Duthie is also involved as one of the main commentators in this poker tour.

The event became an instant success, most especially in Europe. PokerStars.com is the major sponsor of this event. Sunset + Vine won the rights to broadcast the different poker games and tournaments on television all over the continent. In the past few years, the event has proved to the world that it is indeed the richest and most glamorous poker event in Europe. Even players from other parts of the world flock this major event in their quest to achieve poker glory.

Duthie was very instrumental in the thriving of the poker game in Great Britain. This television director won a whopping 1 million British pounds in the Poker Million tournament in 2000 which was witnessed by the vast audience in the country. After this, there seems to be no turning back for the game's popularity after it soared into greater heights. Today, the event is already televised in more than 40 countries all over the globe. Besides this major accomplishment, Duthie was also known to have reached the final table of one of the major tournaments of the World Series of Poker in 2005.

To further add on to the success of the European Poker Tour, the board of directors has decided to hire Lee Jones in 2007 to serve as Executive Host of the tour. He will be responsible for the media exposure as well as managing the different events that are included in the tour. This is a major responsibility and would definitely affect the outcome of the tour in the near future.

Meanwhile, PokerStars.com has made a reputation as the biggest online card room all over the world. It has played a major role in the success of the tour even up to this very particular moment. It holds a lot of poker tournaments on a regular basis to serve as qualifying events in order for players to be able to play in the actual European Poker Tour games.
